Bidayah is a nonprofit organization that creates a space for young Muslim girls to work on their professional and connect them with mentors that resemble them. I worked on delivering their mission accurately by taking the organization's goals and users' goals into consideration and implementing it into a visual prototype.
Research Report PresentationOrganization Goals:
Website Goals
User Goals
The Problem:
As an enthusiastic Muslim girl who wants to learn more and be involved with Bidayah, I don't know how to access these opportunities on the website?
The Solution:
As a UX researcher, I worked on adding more pages to the website which enhanced the functionality of the website and the user experience:
In order to understand how to fulfill the user's needs as well as the organization's needs, I conducted several methods to come up with a Research goal and conducted different methodologies to test my hypothesis.
I conducted a competitive analysis to compare how different nonprofit organization displayed their work on their website and what sets bidayah apart from them. I also learned what were the gaps in Bidayah's website and got insights on how to improve the website on my prototype.
Bidayah has an easy layout design that helps users to navigate
The website doesn't give user the opportunity to be involved with Bidayah and it doesn't showcase the upcoming events
To identify the issues on Bidayah's website, I conducted heuristic evaluations and discovered that the website had violated the Neilsen Norman group standards. The website wasn't consistent with how Bidayah presented its mission and the opportunities they offer. wasn't consistency or visibility of the opportunities that Bidayah displayed on their social media
Heuristic Analysis EvaluationInsights from this method
To learn more how users viewed community engagement, I did a survey with 58 participants where I learned what motivates people to volunteer, where do they volunteer and how do they find out about volunteering opportunities
A large number of my users were the parents of Bidayah, I wanted to learn more about their feedback on the website and how information is displayed there. However, the challenge here majority of my paritpcants had an English language barrier and didn't know how to navigate through the survey Therefore, I conducted an Asynchronous interview using 3 questions written in English and an Audio with the questions recorded in Somali. I got amazing feedback and responses on what method of contact they want to be reached out to and what type of events they want to
To synthesize and organize the information I collected from the survey, I separated my ideas into different themes that I wanted to work on in my prototype. This helped me to locate the pain points I should improve on my prototype
Main Page: Here's what I improved on, I combined about us and leadership on one dropdown, and I added the social media icons of bidayah on the top bar on the website for visibility. I also added a new navigation option on how to "get involved" with the organization
Volunteer page: On this page, I want to give the users a space where they can engage with bidayah in different ways, whether it's volunteering mentoring, or partenship, as well as giving them easy access to applications and the information
Events page: Often time when bidayah creates an event it spreads by word of mouth and a , to spread words to a larger audience by displaying it on the website where I wanted to display the events offered by bidayah in a visual way with easy access.
